Abstract: According to the characteristics of inter-vehicle communication in highway scenarios, this paper proposes a message type based AODV routing protocol, i.e.MTAODV.The main idea is to distinguish the type of message at the application layer during the routing discovery process.The purpose is to reduce the flooding range.Our simulation results demonstrate that the MTAODV improve the performance in VANET, in terms of packet delivery ratio, delay and delay jitter, compared with AODV.In addition, the route overhead is greatly reduced as well.
