License Plate Location Algorithm for FPGA Hardware Real-Time Processing

In this paper,a new algorithm of license plate location suitable for FPGA is proposed,which consists of edge detection,mathematical morphology,projection method,and utilization of the geometric characteristics of license plates.Experiments on 500 license plate images showed that its accuracy rate is as high as 98.8%,and the average processing time of each image is only 1.2ms.
